Show Notes

Mikayla Simpson, popularly known as Original Koffee, is a Jamaican reggae singer, songwriter and rapper. Her record ‘Rapture’ won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album this year, making her the youngest person and only woman to win a Grammy within the category. From a very young age, Koffee has had a unique identity of her own. Koffee talks about how her siblings were already adults when she was born and that she was raised somewhat as an only child by her mother. She discusses how her mother was a strong force as she grew up and still is to this date, her ‘comfort’. How has this relationship shaped who she is today? Anas and Koffee also discuss women empowerment as well as recognition and support amongst young artists like herself within the music industry. In this interview, Anas discovers Mikayla; a 20-year-old who is wise and mature beyond her years.
